Self-Homodyne Detection in Optical Communication Systems
We review work on self-homodyne detection (SHD) for optical communication systems. SHD uses a transmitted pilot-tone (PT), originating from the transmitter laser, to exploit phase noise cancellation at a coherent receiver and to enable transmitter linewidth tolerance and potential energy savings. We give an overview of SHD performance, outlining the key contributors to the optical signal-to-noi...
متن کاملSelf-homodyne RF-optical LiNbO3 microdisk receiver
A novel RF-optical receiver architecture based on nonlinear optical modulation in a LiNbO3 microdisk modulator is presented. This is the first RF-optical receiver without high-speed electronic components for transmitted carrier links. We demonstrate receiver operation by demodulating 50 Mb/s digital data from a 8.7 GHz carrier frequency. 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
متن کاملPilot-tone-based self-homodyne detection using optical nonlinear wave mixing.
An all-optical pilot-tone-based self-homodyne detection scheme using nonlinear wave mixing is experimentally demonstrated. Two scenarios are investigated using (1) multiple wavelength-division-multiplexed channels with sufficient power of the pilot tones and (2) a single channel with a low-power pilot tone. The eye diagram and bit error rate of the system are studied by tuning various parameter...
متن کاملEvolution to 200G Passive Optical Network
New generation passive optical network aims at providing more than 100 Gb/s capacity. Thanks to recent progress enabling a variety of optical transceivers up to 40 Gb/s, many evolution possibilities to 200G PONs (passive optical network) could be investigated. This work proposes two directly deployable cases of evolution to 200G PON based on the combination of these improved optical transceiver...
متن کاملHomodyne detection for measuring internal quantum correlations of optical pulses
A new method is described for determining the quantum correlations at different times in optical pulses by using balanced homodyne detection. The signal pulse and sequences of ultrashort test pulses are superimposed, where for chosen distances between the test pulses their relative phases and intensities are varied from measurement to measurement. The correlation statistics of the signal pulse ...
